WWII U.S. Navy issued Huck Towel, WW2

Description: This is an authentic WWII U.S. Navy issued huck towel. I am not sure, but my relatives suggested that the M.D. may stand for 'Medical Department' on a Navy ship. It does have a few stains and discolorations, presumably from its use in the war as I don't believe its been used for anything since. Please review the photos. Measures 18" wide and 32" long.
